Kick back and hang loose in Manhattan Beach, a quintessential So Cal surf city with laid-back nightlife. This casual coastal community is home to numerous celebrities and professional athletes and features perfect weather, beautiful people and a sexy beach. Shorts, tee-shirts and sandals are just fine for the majority of bars and pubs, where you'll find an energized crowd in their 20s and cheap, ice-cold beers. At upscale lounges you may encounter a dress code after 9PM, along with fancy cocktails, expensive prices and a more mature clientele. Nightlife in Manhattan Beach is centered around two main areas: the north end, also called El Porto, and downtown by the Manhattan Beach Pier. Shellback Tavern or "The Shell" is a rustic pub right by the pier with a jukebox and party crowd. Nearby Simmzy's is an intimate beer and wine bar with 24 beers on tap and a patio. Head to Zinc, the upscale bar at Shade Hotel, for a glamorous crowd and subzero martinis served in glasses made of ice. In El Porto, nightlife is a bit wilder. The original Sharkeez features strong, fruity cocktails and a party atmosphere, OB's is a casual pub for beer lovers and Pancho's is a small cantina with live music on the weekend.
Made famous by the Beach Boys as a surfing mecca, Manhattan Beach is also the birthplace of beach volleyball. The sand here is so soft and fine, it was actually exported to Hawaii decades ago to create another world-famous coastline: Waikiki Beach.
Be on the lookout for Lakers, Kings and Clippers when you visit Manhattan Beach, which was named one of the top ten "Best Places for the Rich and Single" by CNN Money Magazine in 2011. Located near LAX and several training facilities, this beach is home to numerous professional athletes.
